Give as you earn (GAYE)
This a simple tax-efficient method of giving direct from your salary, which authorises your employer to make a donation from your wages before deducting tax. Donations via GAYE are deducted before tax but after deduction of national insurance contributions, and because you donate before the tax is calculated you only pay tax on what is left.
You can use payroll giving providing you are an employee or pensioner and your employer deducts tax from your pay or pension and your employer operates a payroll giving scheme by a government-approved giving agency such as CAF or JustGiving. Please contact your employer about taking advantage of this scheme.

Cheques, bank transfers and CAF vouchers
Single gifts can be made to the College via a cheque sent to the Alumni & Development Office, made payable to 'Magdalene College'. For those with CAF or sovereign accounts, a voucher can be sent to the College for us to complete. It is not possible to claim gift aid on gifts made via CAF vouchers.
Credit card and direct transfer
The Alumni & Development Office can also accept donations by credit card (all major cards except American Express are accepted). This can be effected over the telephone. If you wish to transfer any funds direct to Magdalene’s account please contact the Alumni & Development Office for the relevant IBAN number.
Self-assessment tax return
If you are a self-assessed tax payer you can use your tax return form to donate all or part of any repayment due to you to a charity. The donation will be sent directly to the College. You can also choose to Gift Aid the donation: the College’s unique code for this purpose is 'las31yg'.
Donating shares
If you donate shares to Magdalene, relief from both Capital Gains Tax and Income Tax are included. For example, a gift of £10,000 could cost you a minimum of just £2,000:
£10,000 Qualifying assets gifted to charity that have a 100% capital gain |
|
minus £2,800 Capital Gains Tax on total capital gain
|
|

|
equals £2,200 net cost to owner
