no flash in the pan

in the recently published baxter tables, which examine in mind-boggling statistical detail the results of the tripos examinations for all colleges, magdalene is placed 12th in the overall ranking (which calibrates all students in all years) and a record-breaking 5th in the table for final year students alone. this pleasing result (last year our finalists were ranked 12th) is the best on record and is evidence of the continuing improvement in our undergraduate's academic performance now sustained over a four year period. the number of firsts (71 or 22.6%) was also a record, whilst the number of students achieving a 2.1 or better reached 72.3%. our congratulations go to the undergraduates for this magnificanr achievement (with a proper nod to the direcors of studies, supervisors and tutors whose guidance and encouragement clearly had the desired effect!)
