britten sinfonia: we are delighted to announce an arrangement with the britten sinfonia which will entitle members to special privileges at sinfonia concerts in london. the sinfonia which enjoys a reputation as one of europe's most dynamic chamber ensembles has residences in cambridge, norwich, birmingham and krakow and an annual concert series in london. it is named for benjamin britten, one of britain's greatest 20th century composers and - of course - an honorary fellow of magdalene. further details of the new arrangement as well as notice of two forthcoming concerts can be found here 800 and counting: january witnesses the start of collegiate cambridge's 800th anniversary year. many events are planned for a year which also celebrates other important individualanniversaries, not least those of charles darwin (1809-1882) and our own henry dunster (1609-1659) the true founder of harvard. the 800th celebrations begin on saturday 17 january when churches throughout central cambridge (including the university church of great st mary's) will all ring their bells in celebration. local churches, college chapels and alumni groups worldwide will also participate in the event, further details of which can be found here. chesterton road phase II: today, haymills (contractors for phase I of the chesterton road project (cripps court)) moved on site to commence construction of phase II (a student accommodation unit comprising 16 en suite rooms). in a short ceremony and in the presence of representatives of cloverleaf, magdalene college, the contractors and the cripps foundation, the master and mrs robinson broke the ground for the building. when completed in the late summer of 2010, phase II of the project will fulfill a longstanding ambition of the college to house all of its junior members (both undergraduate and graduate) for the whole of their time here. fundraising for the new building continues and any member interested in making a contribution is urged to contact the fellow for development (director.development@magd.cam.ac.uk) more information is available on the university website here. archive news here |
