magdalene in america (MAm) was established with several purposes in mind: to encourage contact between our north american alumni (both native and "ex pat"); to facilitate contact between north american alumni and the college; to promote the college's interests in north america; and, finally, to encourage our north american alumni in their desire to support the college and to facilitate their philanthropic efforts.

it is with the last of these aims in mind that the board of MAm under the chairmanship of robert chartener has decided to launch the MAm project:an initiative designed to last for the remaining span of collegiate cambridge's 800th anniversary campaign and with the very specific aim of making a material contribution to the completion of phase II of the college's cripps court. phase II of the cripps court is likely to comprise mainly postgraduate accommodation (not least for overseas graduates) and it is MAm's aim to raise $500,000 to help build a significant part of it. MAm's contribution will be recorded - in bricks and mortar - in the fabric of the building and in the naming of part of it.

in seeking to raise these funds, the MAm board has decided to employ the vehicle of an annual fund, to which it is hoped members will contribute on an annual basis over 5 years.

in the meantime, any member wishing to know more or wishing to make a donation is encouraged to contact mark billinge by clicking here or robert chartener by clicking here.
