The Service
The memorial service itself will be held in Great St Mary’s, which is the University Church opposite the Senate House on King’s Parade. Although it will start at 2.30pm, those wishing to attend are advised to arrive in good time, especially if accessing a seat upstairs would be problematic. Lord Igor Judge will give the oration and Dr Neil Jones, current Director of Studies in Law, will also say a few words.
Refreshments in College after the Service
Magdalene College will be hosting a light tea in the Murphy Gallery in Cripps Court on Chesterton Road after the service, from approximately 3.45pm-5pm. Please note that the distance between the University Church and Cripps Court takes 15-20 minutes at an average walking speed and the weather is likely to be cold. The church, main College site and Cripps Court are marked on this map. Some members will be taking taxis between the two venues and others may wish to consider this option; the cost of the journey would be reduced by sharing taxis between several people. Panther taxis (01223 715715) are a Cambridge-based company and generally considered reliable, although we cannot guarantee their service. Other companies include Abba Taxis (01223 245245), Ace Taxis (01223 462020) and Cam Cab Ltd (01223 704704). (Please note that this list is not exhaustive.)
Parking and other travel information
We regret that parking is extremely limited in the College so we cannot accommodate a great number of car parking requests. Although there are various locations with on-street parking in the city centre these are mostly Pay & Display and likely to be in use on a Saturday afternoon. Further information about the location and costs of city centre car parks can be found here.
Alternatively, Cambridge has several Park & Ride locations, information and maps for which can be viewed here. For those travelling by train, the Citi 1 bus service is timetabled to run every ten minutes between the railway station and city centre (buses in the ‘Arbury’ direction run to the centre from the station and buses in the ‘Fulbourn’ or ‘Cherry Hinton’ directions go from the city centre to the station). Further bus service details can be found on the Stagecoach website here.
